David Pittaway

QC – Hailsham Chambers

David Pittaway QC was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1977 and appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2000. He was Head of Hailsham Chambers, London until July 2021, he sits a Deputy High Court Judge in both QBD and Administrative Court and was Treasurer of the Inner Temple in 2017. He has held many senior appointments in the legal profession. He is a past Chairman of the Professional Negligence Bar Association.

He is a Fellow of Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and an Accredited Mediator. The main focus of his practice is now as an arbitrator, mediator and neutral evaluator in professional, negligence, clinical negligence, and personal injury claims.
Recent feedback on how he conducted a successful mediation said: “I would like to say that David was fantastic on the day and really assisted us in settling this highly contested matter,” and “Please pass on my thanks to David. He really made me feel included in the mediation, and as I was the least senior in the room that was really nice of him and much appreciated.”
He continues to practise in medical law, public inquiries, professional negligence, regulatory and disciplinary, product liability and personal injury in a principally advisory capacity.

He has had an outstanding practice in healthcare and other regulatory and disciplinary processes. He has been frequently instructed in cases defending high profile clients in healthcare and non-healthcare sectors against reputational damage.

As a leading authority on public inquiries and inquests, he has had substantial experience of large-scale inquiries, including The Shipman Inquiry and The Hillsborough Inquests.
